NY loses to Missouri in the consolation semi finals. Great run by Team NY in Greco & Freestyle. Finished in the top 12 in both styles. An improvement over last year. Win over Ohio in FS was a big step forward.
The LI wrestlers represented NY well -
Sewkamar (LB) @ 105
Mark R. (LB) @ 112
Allen (LB) @ 119
McCabe (Connetqout) @ 125
Siracusa (Sayville) @ 130
Loew (Wantagh) @ 171
Alessandrini (St. Anthony's) @ 189
DeSousa (Bayport) @ 285
Salkey (Uniondale) @ 285
Big props to Kelly (Forks) @ 98; Siracusa; Paddock (Warsaw) @ 160 & Diekel (Whitehall) for for being only wrestler in the weight for NY in both styles. 18 rounds of grueling competition. Not many wrestlers can handle that.
Lotz – Rodriguez & Realbuto did you proud. They flew in for FS, hired guns.
What’s D2? DeSousa put himself on the map. 285#’s are still flying all over the place. He’s a pinner. Beat some very quality kids including a phantom quick pin over a Fargo AA.
The LB trio! Lights out, lightweights. Talk about murderers row. Watch out Fargo.
McCabe finished above .500 for the tournament despite getting his grilled smushed in a bit (Gator roll, send him some flowers).
Siracusa beat two State Champs. Wilcoxen from Nebraska & Humphrey from Kansas. Add that to wins over lil Dake & lil Paddock at NYS Club Cup, and it’s not a bad month. Northeast Regional champ in both styles too, keep it up.
The last minute edition, aka Loew beat a Fargo AA and finished 4-1 in freestyle. Who says you need to plan ahead….?
The CHSAA had 2 reps in the “Rrok” & Alessandrini. Think Alessandrini drew the shortest straw of the tournament, one AA after another. Had a couple of big wins, one over a Fila Cadet AA & a Fargo AA.
What else can you say about Salkey, he’s a beast! Should be in the hunt for state title next year.
P.S. Coach Foxen is the man! Not a only a great wrestling guy but a top notch fashion designer.
P.P.S. Hey Axren, stay in NY for a while. The guys love having you around as their Coach.
One more thing, we shot ourselves in the foot by having camp on the same day at the NE Regionals. With more seed points, we may have done even better. As Coach Arey (Islip) would say, “Next Year’.
