Since its inception in 2002, the Eastern States Classic has become one of the top high

The event has continually attracted the top ranked teams in the state and 2010 could

Longwood HS ranked 2

who were unable to win the Eastern States Classic providing the founders, Friends of

Section 9 Wrestling Inc., an indication that the tournament has been well received

throughout New York State and the East Coast.

With the changes made a few years ago by the NYSPHSAA in regards to individual

competition regulations that follows a point system with the expansion of the

“wildcards” that allows many of the 500 high schools a criteria to gain a wild card for

one of their wrestlers.

There are many schools who may not have the “dual team” for the grueling two day

tournament that now provides an opportunity to send several of their top state level

wrestlers to the Eastern States.

The event, with its good competition in every round

where team points provides the fans excitement for their teams. Many of the top

universities also use the results as a recruiting tool to their programs.
